Some shoots feel less like work and more like stepping into a living, breathing piece of culture. Photographing The Curtis Family C-Notes was exactly that.
The C-Notes are a powerhouse family band rooted in funk, soul, and serious musical legacy. When they reached out about creating imagery for their new album, it felt less like a client inquiry and more like reconnecting with old friends—because that’s exactly what it was. I’ve worked with this incredible family before, and every time we collaborate there’s the same energy: joy, rhythm, creativity, and deep respect for what they’re building together.
We created this image for their latest album, leaning into a timeless vibe: bold textures, rich color, and a nod to classic funk-era album covers. Velvet, instruments in hand, iconic afros — the whole scene had the energy of a vintage record sleeve.
Working with artists who already bring so much presence is a gift. My job becomes simple: create the space and let the personality show up.
The result is exactly what makes the C-Notes so magnetic — family, style, groove, and undeniable cool.
And yes… they sound as good as they look.
